Print Ads

Ride with Pride

As part of an Elements of Creative Advertising course, I was tasked with creating a magazine ad for Ride with Pride, a non-profit equine-assisted therapy organization located in Staunton, Viriginia that helps individuals facing intellectual, physical, or emotional challenges. The women-owned and led organization has several programs including therapeutic riding for children ages four and older. This project was completed with a team of four other students.

The Message

My team and I produced a print magazine advertisement with the objective of recruiting female volunteers for the Fall 2025 program session.

Ray-Ban

During a Copywriting for Advertising course, I and a team of two other students were tasked with creating a print magazine advertisement for Ray-Ban with the objective of advertising to colorblind men.

Target Audience

The target audience for this advertisement are wealthier white men between the age range of thirty to mid-forties who have an active lifestyle. Our research concluded that white males are most commonly colorblind, and the majority experience red-green deficiency, which informed our decision to use an image that uses blues and browns and omits red and green altogether (Sugue, 2024). We chose to market this advertisement to men with an active lifestyle as Ray-Ban has a high consumer demographic of active people who value high quality eyewear (Brand Media Coalition, 2019). This also led us to decide to use an image of nature and hiking as that will pique the interest of viewers. Ray-Ban glasses are in a more expensive market and are valued by men with a higher income. Ideally this advertisement would appear in a nature, travel, or outdoor magazine to reach our intended audience and connect with Ray-Ban’s target market.

Final Design

Design Rationale

My team and I decided to use a product-focused strategy for our advertisement by focusing on the brightening feature of the glasses for the colorblind market. The image of the advertisement is dull and lacks contrast in color in the background but is bright and vivid through the Ray-Ban lenses, demonstrating the feature of the product. The body copy highlights this feature, and the slogan reinforces this aspect. The headline utilizes a play-on-words strategy with “peek” and “peak” since the ad is about vision but also features a mountain peak. We wanted to show the difference between how colorblind people see the world versus how everyone else sees the world and create a solution where everyone shares the same visual experience, which was the leading factor to using a feature strategy for this advertisement.
